"Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate"
Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate and passionate champion of 19th Century buildings described The Duke of Cornwall "as one of the nation's finest examples of Victorian architecture". In 1988 a restoration programme began, which exposed the building's original engravings and mouldings, carved from five different types of stone.
